Uneven Skin Tone

Uneven skin tone is a common complaint among men and women of all ages and all ethnicities. When people talk about uneven skin tone, they are usually referring to color variations in their skin as well as to poor texture. Both of these issues leave the skin looking blotchy and rough.

Uneven Skin Tone Treatments

There are many excellent products and treatments that can improve uneven skin tone. Laser procedures, such as the Limelight laser, can be used to improve uneven skin tone by minimizing brown and red discolorations. Underlying browns and red are usually caused by a combination of sun exposure and genetics. Improving areas of discoloration results in healthier and younger-looking skin.1

The use of Skin Pen microneedling, which creates small micro-traumas in the skin, can be very beneficial for improving poor texture and fine lines and wrinkles. Chemical peels, ranging from very mild to aggressive, are excellent treatments for people with uneven skin tone. Chemical peels can be used on all ethnicities and can greatly improve both poor texture and color variations.2 Genesis MedSpa offers a wide variety of chemical peels and we can customize a treatment plan for your skin’s individual needs.

Products that are helpful for uneven skin tone include topical Vitamin C, growth factors and retinol. Topical Vitamin C helps to reduce the appearance of brown spots and also helps to protect the skin from future damage.3 Growth factors aid in the treatment of uneven skin tone by helping the skin to repair itself and by stimulating new collagen formation.4 Retinol is an important product in the treatment of uneven skin tone because it stimulates the skin to turn over more quickly, creating smoother and softer skin.5 Genesis MedSpa carries several excellent lines of medical grade products that contain all of those ingredients.

Of course, the use of a good quality SPF daily is important in the treatment of uneven skin tone. We recommend at least an SPF of 20 and to reapply every 4 hours, unless you are outside, in which case you should reapply every 2 hours. Remember, the sun does come through car windows and building windows, and it is this sun exposure which causes most people’s uneven skin tone.
