Skin Pen- Skin Needling

Medical Skin Needling, also referred to as Collagen Induction Therapy, is used to stimulate the body’s own collagen production. This is helpful for improving scar tissue as well as reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and improving overall texture.1* The treatment uses a tool with many fine, sharp, sterile needles which are attached to a roller. This is moved over the surface of the skin to create multiple micro-channels. This “trauma” stimulates the production of new collagen and elastin, resulting in thicker, plumper and healthier skin. This is an excellent treatment for anywhere on the body, although it is most frequently performed on the face.

Collagen Induction Therapy

A minimum of six treatments is usually needed to achieve rejuvenation of an area. When treating scarred tissue, more treatments may be necessary. Use of a collagen-stimulating product prior to and in between treatments is needed for best results.* Needling sessions are spaced 4-8 weeks apart.2

Skin Pen – Skin Needling Treatments

Most people are good candidates for medical skin needling. However, if you have poorly controlled diabetes or a history of keloid scarring, you may not be able to have the procedure performed. In addition, if you have any infection or open sores at the treatment site, you would need to delay the procedure until the area was well healed. Needling can be performed on all skin types, from light to dark skin types.
Recovery time depends upon the aggressiveness of the treatment and the area on which it was performed. Most people can return to work and normal activities immediately following the procedure.* Most clients will experience redness and mild swelling for 24-48 hours and there may be minimal pin-point bleeding and/or bruising. Numbing cream can be applied before performing needling, so the procedure is comfortable.
